The San Antonio Children’s Museum, American Institute of Architects and West East Design Group have partnered to bring San Antonio a new holiday tradition, the Gingerbread Design Challenge.
The Gingerbread Design Challenge is free to the public and will be held in Ingram Park Mall on Saturday, November 14 between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Teams of local architects & contractors will come together in a timed “Iron Chef” style competition to demonstrate their skills by designing and building one of the holiday season’s most lasting images: GINGERBREAD HOUSES.
The teams will put their skills to the test as they each create a gingerbread house out of sheets gingerbread, courtesy of the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. Teams will be provided with royal icing and assorted candy decorations, which will not be revealed until the day of the event.
House will be judged on originality of idea, consistency of theme, creative use of materials, complexity of design and overall appearance. Spectators will have the opportunity to cast their vote for the “People’s Choice” and “Kids’ Choice” award. The winners of the Gingerbread Design Challenge will be announced a Museum Members’ Preview at the San Antonio Children’s Museum on Thursday, November 19 at 4:30pm – 6:30pm
Final Gingerbread Design Competition houses will be on display at the San Antonio Children’s Museum beginning November 19 through December 31. Museum admission is $7.00
